Safest Rear facing car seat

Britax Graphene – Narrow base with easy to use isofix connections. A design issue means you need to loosen both straps at the same time otherwise the harness gets caught. harness adjustment is in steps of 15mm and is easy when in rear facing mode, and somewhat more difficult in forward facing mode with many parents not recognising the push switch in the front. The full body SICT is an excellent addition but is missing head SICT as is on the platinum.

Britax BFirst ifix – The installation of the Bfirst iFix is via isofix; which are tucked away neatly under the seat, which need to be disconnected and put through the appropriate installation path. Removing the isofix connectors is difficult and the insert must be removed. When you require seat belt installation then the seat belt is passed through the appropriately colored seat belt path.

The stabilising bar has a cloth cover, protecting your childs feet from the plastic. The back of the seat is ventilated with air flow holes helping to keep your child cooler in summer. Out of the box the Bfirst has the buckle facing outward making it easier for parents to install the seat. The Bfirst includes a Newly designed Sict system which winds out for both the body and the head, meaning that it only needs to be wound out on the side which is on the outside of the car. This is why this is the Safest Car Seat for 2019.

Britax BFirst Clicktight – The installation of the Bfirst Click-tight is with the seatbelt. However unlike other seatbelt installations, you should not try to get a rock hard installation or use a locking clip, just take out the slack and close the base of the seat. When you require seat belt installation then the seat belt is passed through the appropriately colored seat belt path. Should you install the click-tight to hard, you will find it may be difficult to open the base and release the installation.

Britax Millenia – Unfortunately the Britax Millenia is now discontinued and is replaced by the Britax Bfirst. The Millenia is possibly the best seat out there and should you be able to find a second hand one in very good condition, snap it up. The Millenia is a very easy convertible seat suitable from birth to 4 years of age. It has Both Isofix and seat Belt installation methods which both work equally well.

The harness is very easy to loosen and tighten and plenty of room on the side for chunky monkey’s. The tether strap can .be moved to the other side so that the installation can be done on the drivers side. Should this seat be still be available it would be Safest Car Seat for 2019.

Infa Secure Quattro – This is the narrowest convertible seat on the market, in both the rear and forward facing mode. the single seat belt path makes it easier for parents to install. The shell and the head-rest include ACT which is Infa Secure’s version of SICT. Depending on the version of the Quattro there may be one additional piece of protection as secur-air.

Safe Grip Clamp

The safe grip clamp is easier than isofix to use and get a tight secure fitting. The quattro has an adjustable buckle as well as being placed further away from the back of the seat. A down side of the quattro is the height adjustment increments which are closer to 35-40 mm.

Maxi Cosi Moda – The Maxi Cosi Moda is one of the few seats which will fit comfortably into sports cars, however most families do not drive sports cars. The shoulder height markers are lower than both the graphene and the quattro. the footprint of the Moda is wider than most isofix connectors and making it difficult to get a good isofix installation. The stabilising bar is almost vertical, meaning that it will be further away from the vehicle seat.

The seat belt path is close to the seat and when the buckle of the seat belt is long getting a tight install is difficult. Harness adjustment is very fiddly, requiring two levers to be pressed to the center, once done lift the headrest 30mm to the next position. Many parents have reported difficulties in tightening the harness when the seat is in rear facing position. It is for these reasons that the Maxi Cosi Moda is NOT the Safest Car Seat for 2019.
